The Youth A.S. Roma 1998-99 Away Kit is a distinctive retro design from the late-1990s era of the Giallorossi, closely associated with the emergence of Francesco Totti as the central figure of the team.
The shirt features a predominantly white base, contrasted by a black-and-orange V-neck collar and fine dark red piping across the upper body. Roma entered the 1998/99 season under Zdeněk Zeman, whose highly attacking approach produced one of Serie A’s most entertaining teams. Roma scored 69 league goals and finished fifth in Serie A with 54 points, securing another season of European football.
The campaign was particularly significant in the development of Francesco Totti. Wearing the No.10 shirt, the 22-year-old was becoming the creative and symbolic centre of Roma, scoring 12 goals across the season. Alongside him, Marco Delvecchio enjoyed an outstanding campaign with 18 goals, while Brazilian forward Paulo Sérgio also scored 12.
Roma also enjoyed a strong UEFA Cup run. They eliminated Silkeborg, Leeds United and Zürich to reach the quarter-finals before losing both legs 2–1 to Atlético Madrid. The European campaign included a particularly impressive defensive performance at Elland Road, where a 0–0 draw against Leeds secured Roma’s progression after a 1–0 victory in Rome.
The season also featured memorable domestic results, including a 2–0 victory over Juventus, a 5–1 win against Perugia and a 3–1 Derby della Capitale victory over Lazio in April 1999.
