David Beckham wore the No.23 shirt for Real Madrid during the 2004/05 season, his second campaign at the Santiago Bernabéu following his high-profile arrival from Manchester United in 2003. By then, the England captain was firmly established within Madrid’s celebrated Galácticos generation, sharing the pitch with Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, Raúl, Luís Figo and Roberto Carlos.

Beckham’s trademark passing and set-piece ability remained central to his game. One of his standout moments arrived early in the campaign, when his superb 23-metre free kick secured a 1–0 La Liga victory over Numancia at the Bernabéu. In Europe, he remained an important presence as Madrid progressed from their Champions League group and defeated Juventus 1–0 in the first leg of the Round of 16, with Beckham supplying the free kick from which Iván Helguera headed the winning goal.

The season itself was turbulent. Madrid went through multiple coaching changes before Vanderlei Luxemburgo took charge, eventually finishing second in La Liga. Their Champions League campaign ended against Juventus after extra time in Turin, despite carrying a 1–0 advantage into the second leg.
