The Manchester United 2016-17 Home Retro Football Shirt represents José Mourinho’s first season at Old Trafford and a campaign that ended with three pieces of silverware: the UEFA Europa League, EFL Cup and FA Community Shield.
The shirt features Manchester United’s traditional red identity with a distinctive two-tone half-and-half red construction. A subtle vertical hexagonal pattern runs through the centre of the shirt, creating the transition between the two shades of red, while white detailing provides a clean contrast.

The 2016/17 season marked the beginning of José Mourinho’s tenure as Manchester United manager. The squad underwent a major transformation, highlighted by the arrivals of Zlatan Ibrahimović, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly.
Ibrahimović immediately became the focal point of United’s attack, taking the No.9 shirt. Pogba returned to Old Trafford and wore No.6, while Mkhitaryan took No.22 and Bailly No.3. Ibrahimović scored twice in the 3–2 victory, including the late winning goal, adding another trophy to Mourinho’s first season.
The most important achievement came in Europe. United progressed through a lengthy UEFA Europa League campaign to reach the final against Ajax in Stockholm. Paul Pogba opened the scoring in the 18th minute before Henrikh Mkhitaryan added the second, giving United a 2–0 victory.
Winning the Europa League was historically significant because it completed Manchester United’s collection of the major UEFA club competitions, adding the Europa League to their previous European Cup/Champions League and European Cup Winners’ Cup successes.
The season also represented the final chapter of Wayne Rooney’s first Manchester United spell.
