ROBERTO BAGGIO #10 — 1998/99 FIRST SEASON AT INTER
Roberto Baggio wore the No.10 shirt for Inter Milan during the 1998/99 season, his first campaign with the Nerazzurri after joining the club in the summer of 1998. Arriving after an impressive spell with Bologna and a strong showing for Italy at the 1998 World Cup, the former Ballon d’Or winner added another chapter to his remarkable Serie A career by returning to one of Italy’s biggest stages.
Although Inter endured a turbulent domestic season, Baggio produced some memorable performances in Europe. The defining moment came against reigning European champions Real Madrid at San Siro in November 1998. Introduced from the bench with the score level, Baggio scored twice late in the match to secure a famous 3–1 victory, helping Inter finish top of their Champions League group ahead of Madrid. Inter eventually reached the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by Manchester United.
The season proved difficult at club level, with multiple managerial changes and Inter finishing eighth in Serie A. Nevertheless, Baggio’s individual quality and European performances provided some of the campaign’s standout moments.
