Croatia entered the 2018 FIFA World Cup under manager Zlatko Dalić and went on to reach the first World Cup Final in the country's history.
After winning all three group matches, Croatia eliminated Denmark on penalties in the Round of 16, defeated hosts Russia on penalties in the quarter-final, and beat England 2–1 after extra time in the semi-final. France eventually defeated Croatia 4–2 in the Final.
The black-and-navy away jersey became especially significant during this run. Croatia wore it in five World Cup matches — against Argentina, Iceland, Denmark, Russia and England — and won every one of those ties, including the two knockout matches decided by penalty shoot-outs.
