A.S. Roma entered the 1998/99 season under Zdeněk Zeman, whose highly attacking approach produced one of Serie A’s most entertaining sides. Roma finished 5th in Serie A with 54 points, scoring 69 league goals in 34 matches.
The attacking core featured captain Francesco Totti, Marco Delvecchio and Paulo Sérgio. Delvecchio finished as Roma’s leading scorer with 18 goals, while Totti and Paulo Sérgio each scored 12. Eusebio Di Francesco added eight and Carmine Gautieri six.
