The Boys in Green – Where It All Began

Before the noise.
Before Italia ’90.
Before Ireland became a nation that believed.
In 1988, ahead of UEFA Euro 1988, something special was happening.
Led by Jack Charlton, a new generation of Irish players was beginning to rise. Not superstars. Not favourites. Just men who wore green with pride.
“The Boys in Green” wasn’t just a song.
Written by Michael Carwood for Ireland’s Euro ’88 campaign and performed by the Republic of Ireland national football team on RTÉ’s Late Late Show — it became an anthem.
It reached No.1 in Ireland in June/July 1988.All proceeds went to charity.
And a country started to believe.
Before the famous nights.
Before the quarter-final in Italy.
Before the world noticed Irish football.
There was a team standing together… singing.
If you remember 1988…
If you remember that summer…
If you remember believing for the first time…
Would you go back?
